Tongue-Tied

A tongue tie, also called ankyloglossia, occurs when the small band of tissue under the tongue is too tight, short, or restrictive. This tissue can limit tongue movement and may affect feeding, speech, oral function, and comfort.

At New York Periodontics, tongue tie treatment is performed in a conservative, minimally invasive manner using laser technology.

Why We Remove Tongue Ties

The goal of tongue tie removal is to release the restricted tissue so the tongue can move more freely.

For infants, this may help improve latch and feeding.

For children and adults, it may help improve speech, oral function, tongue mobility, and comfort.

Laser Tongue Tie Release

Traditionally, tongue ties were often treated with a scalpel. After seeing how aggressive some scalpel procedures can be, our office now uses a laser-based approach whenever appropriate.

The laser allows us to release the tongue tie with excellent control while minimizing unnecessary tissue trauma.

A Conservative Approach for All Ages

Tongue tie removal is generally a straightforward procedure when properly diagnosed and treated. At New York Periodontics, we use advanced laser technology to make the procedure as conservative, precise, and comfortable as possible.

Our goal is to improve function while supporting fast healing and a smooth recovery.
